Wednesday March 2nd.

I am still working on the exercises concerned with making joins between materials but don’t feel inclined to talk about them yet!  Instead I would much rather post this rather lovely bark from a fallen tree near my home.  It is very slowly rotting away from the inside.  The colours of decay seem to float through the cracks.  I can see that if this was interpreted fairly literally, in textile, you would get quite different effects depending on the techniques used.  Actually joining separate fragments together, perhaps by taping from behind, would make a more meaningful observation than simply embroidering black lines over coloured fabric.  The implications of breaking apart, trying to “hold it all together”, would be better expressed.
